Gambling is regarded as the second-oldest profession that has been discovered by man. In addition to the primal urges that drove the Apes throughout their evolutionary routine, an innate desire to take risks and emerge as a winner over their peers was the one quality that curtailed the herd psyche and made Homo sapiens the leading species in the race to survive. This attraction to the unknown as well as things that had an outcome beyond our control established the foundation for religion, science and mythology, as well as the knowledge that became the hallmark of our species. Adam and Eve weren't playing with fate or the rules of Lord when they consumed the forbidden fruit. Behold! Their gamble been rewarded...The desire to play a game of chance is something that has been hard-wired within our minds. The reason for this can be attributed to our ancestors up there in pre-historic era that were constantly fighting some odd or the other. They were able to beat these odds and was the secret to their survival as well as that of their people. We live in the 21st century. Today, gambling is a multi-billion-dollar industry that thrives off the excitement and obsession of a modern-day gambler who is "nearly being a step away from" winning the never-ending jackpot. It is the desire of a sophisticated executive or businessman with fancy degrees that makes them want to gamble. This is a testimony to their reasoning and intelligence has guided them throughout their lives. Spending their hard-earned money one night in a shady casino makes for an interesting study that sheds light the motives and needs of a mind that lives on the edge. The first step is to understand that not all gamblers fit the stereotypes that others have about them. This is referring to both stereotypes that are at the opposite ends of the spectrum. One is an elegant, sophisticated, and feminine man who is knowledgeable about wine, and has three tricks up his sleeve. This image is reinforced by the James Bond-like characters who makes gambling attractive and glamorous. On the other end exists the less fortunate cousin of this handsome-looking devil. He's a social rot who is hungry, on drugs, fighting, stealing; all to win money. He's now a danger to his family as well as society because he is so dependent on gambling. The real-life gambler is somewhere at the middle of this spectrum. The gambling community is divided into three major categories, each with its own specific motives and motivations. They are:1) High-risk gamblersThey view betting as a form of sport. They are willing to play a game of cards on special occasions, wager on horse races in the context of a social occasion, and place a wager with their friends who are equally enthusiastic about the outcome of Euro Cup. They consider gambling to be one of the many skills that are necessary to establish that they are persons of the world. Gambling is something they do because it's what their social circle requires or because they enjoy the excitement of it. They are aware of when they should put aside their excess and when it is the time to get out of the way.2.) 2) Habitual Gamblers or Problem Gamblers:The group comprises people who consider gambling to be more than just a pastime. For them , it's an habit that cannot be kicked off easily for they gamble to make money. are those who gamble regularly.3.) The pathological Gamblers:<img width="412" src="">This is the group that probably consists of the persons who are reasons for the second stereotype discussed above. Pathological is defined in psychological usage as a compulsion marked by the ability to resist overwhelming and irrational desires. People who are pathological gamblers are insanity-driven and drawn to gambling but have lost the ability to recognize when it's time to stop. Like a drug addict, gambling becomes the mainstay of their lives and overrules any moral, ethical, economical or social arguments against it. There are many other behavioral problems that impact their lives - this is known as Co-morbidity. People falling in this category need strong help to drive them out of this nadir. This is the category for gamblers and the reasons. Let's see how people move through each stage. What is the reason an individual enters the gambling world? As stated earlier, for our ancestors avoiding risks was altogether an enormous risk they could not afford to risk. With our present situation, it is obvious that trekking into the dark forest to find a wild animal was a risky bet. But for them it was a way of life. So slowly , but surely this ability to take risks is a part of every one of us. For those who are just beginning, gambler, the risk is such a small amount and the reward is so great that for him it is a matter of common sense to go on with it. It's hard to not be drawn to the attractive career. These games are often built in a way where the gambler believes that his skills are improving and that he's closer than ever before to winning. If this is not checked, it eventually moves on to become something of a routine and then eventually an addiction. Gambling is essentially based on two universal emotions : the desire to be a millionaire without actually working to win it and the dread of giving up that dream no matter how high the stakes are.
