This issue describes the "Workshop on Research Funding Program FY 1998".

Since 1995, AITEC has been conducting the "Research Funding Program" to develop and promote IFS (ICOT Free Software - FGCS products). This is the 4th workshop since this program started, but since the FGCS technology promotion project will be ended in March 1999, this workshop will be the last one.

Under this year's program, we made important brushups to the IFS and extended IFS. The aim of this was to improve the accessibility of the software which is used as a tool for knowledge processing and parallel processing as well as for education, and to encourage its use.

At the workshop, 19 projects (6 projects continued from last year and 13 new projects) will be presented. As we have extended the program to overseas researchers since last year, they will also come to Japan to join in this workshop. Be prepared for lively discussions and exchanges of information!

The workshop schedule is as follows (For further details, see the following article):

**** Workshop on Research Funding Program FY 1998 ****
Date: March 11 - 12, 1999
Place: Shiba Park Hotel
(1-5-10, Shiba-koen, Minato-ku, Tokyo)

If you would like to participate in the workshop, please fill in the following application form and send it by E-mail to:
moro@icot.or.jp, ayako@icot.or.jp

We are pleased to announce the establishment of the "KLIC Association." As a result of discussions among a group that is working on maintaining and improving KLIC, we have decided to set up this association as the core of the KLIC researcher's and users' community and voluntary work, all for the purpose of maintaining and improving KLIC and its related software.

The general meeting for the establishment of the "KLIC Association" will be held on the same day as the "Workshop on Research Funding Program FY 1998" as follows:
**** General Meeting for Establishment of "KLIC Association" ****
Date: 17:00 p.m., March 12 (Fri), 1999
Place: Shiba Park Hotel
(1-5-10, Shiba-koen, Minato-ku, Tokyo)
Iris Room (2nd floor of the Annex Building)
We look forward to seeing you at the workshop and the KLIC Association establishment meeting.
