Special Issue for "WORKSHOP OF RESEARCH FUNDING PROGRAM FY 1997"

INDEX

Introduction

The 1998 Nagano Winter Olympic Games have closed, and spring is upon us. In the Olympic Games, athletes were expected to perform to the best of their ability which they developed from tremendous effort over the past four years. We were very much moved with their sporting spirit and great performances in the games no matter what the final results were.

At AITEC, the "Workshop of Research Funding Program FY 1997" will be held on March 12 and 13, 1998 in Tokyo. It is an important opportunity for researchers to have a platform to show their best project results once a year, as the Olympic Games provides a platform for athletes to show their results every four years. We hope you can participate in the workshop introduced in this issue.

Since 1995, AITEC has been conducting the "Research Funding Program" for the dissemination and further development of IFS (ICOT Free Software - FGCS products). For this fiscal year we have extended the program to overseas researchers, and received a number of proposals for research projects. As a result, we selected 6 projects from countries such as the USA, UK, Austria, and others.

This is the third workshop since this program started in 1996. At the workshop, 16 of 22 projects (3 projects continued from last year and 19 new projects) will be presented by domestic researchers.

I believe that there will be presentations and discussions on parallel processing, knowledge processing, and intelligent software. These presentations will be very interesting not only for the researchers working on these topics but also for the managers of related R&D programs.

The workshop schedule and program are in the following article.

If you are interested in participating in the workshop, please contact us in advance by e-mail at: moro@icot.or.jp.

You will also be able to make an entry at the workshop site. No admission fee will be needed.

On the first day, the workshop will be followed by a reception, and you can enjoy complimentary food and drinks. Please drop in to discuss your research and exchange information.

If you would like to know more about the workshop, please forward your questions by e-mail to the above-listed address.

We are very much looking forward to seeing you at the workshop.

Message From the Editorial Desk

We have introduced the "Workshop of Research Funding Program FY 1997" in this issue.

Due to our scheduling reasons, we are not able to have presentations by overseas researchers in this workshop. All the Research Funding Program projects in FY 1997 are planned to be released on the AITEC Homepage. So please check it out.

You may be experiencing the busiest time of year as this fiscal year comes to a close, but please take this chance to participate in the workshop and watch and listen to the exciting presentations by the researchers of the Research Funding Program.

Again, we are very much looking forward to meeting you at the workshop, or see you in the next AITEC NEWS.
