Overview
The new HELIC-II is an experimental software tool that simulates the
complex reasoning processes of legal experts and is capable of some
types of legal reasoning.
Features
The new HELIC-II simulates legal reasoning strategies as follows.
- By inputing a new case and a goal, the new HELIC-II generates the
plausible arguments for the current viewpoint.
- By inputing a new case and a goal, the new HELIC-II generates the
arguments supporting that goal and the strongest viewpoint for the
generated arguments.
- The new HELIC-II simulates a debate between the defendent and the
plaintiff.
Function
The new HELIC-II unifies the functions of making arguments and
deciding viewpoint which are important elements of legal reasoning.
The new HELIC-II is also able to debate the legal issues. Therefore
the new HELIC-II is extends the functions of old HELIC-II as follows.
- Function of making arguments which supports a given goal.
- Function of selecting arguments by defeasible reasoning.
- Function of simulating debate between the plaintiff and the
defendant.
