Project Goals: the goal of this project is to design and implement a programming framework aimed at supporting effective and efficient development of World-Wide Web applications. The proposed programming framework is based on the symbolic and concurrent capabilities offered by KLIC.

Project Status: the first months of the project have been dedicated to the analysis of the KLIC implementation and to the development of the lower level of the framework (message and object layer). The KLIC system has been extended to embed

- communication via HTTP
- symbolic encoding of HTML
- CGI scripting
Research Results: the system is about halfway through its development. The lower level of WEB-KLIC is currently active. Preliminary ideas related to the project have also been presented in the IEEE International Conference on Tools for Artificial Intelligence, with very encouraging feedback.

Planned Schedule: the project is only slightly behind with respect to the originally proposed schedule (mainly due to the additional time required to achieve a good understanding of the structure of the KLIC system). The current schedule for the next months is organized as follows:

a) December '97: completion of CGI scripting and complete implementation of the object level;
b) February '98: first prototype of the active layer and testing on practical applications.
We expect by February 1998 to have a complete prototype of WEB-KLIC. The system will embed the message layer, the object layer (in a complete form) and the active layer (first prototype).
